WALKING TOUR ON MOUNT FLOIEN AND BERGEN FUNICULAR
City Tour, Naturalista
From the lower station of Fløibanen the ride takes approx. 8 minutes to the top of Mount Fløien at some 1.000 ft, and on the way up we can enjoy a magnificent view of Bergen and surroundings. Fløien hills are a very popular recreation area used by the locals all the year round. We start our walking tour on one of the many gravel roads, through slightly hilly woodland to the little, idyllic lake called Skomakerdiket, then uphill to join the main path, Blåmansveien. As we get higher the view gets better! The fjord with a multitude of islands lie beneath us as well as the town, and far out to the West the North Sea. Having walked some 2,5 km we arrive at a crossroad. By clear weather we head up the Rundemansvegroad and as we leave the trees behind there is a wide view to all sides, reaching the highest point, Rundemanen, at some 570m (1800 ft) and take a welcome break to enjoy the invigourating air. There is a great variety of possibilities to make the walk longer or somewhat shorter, according to fitness and weather conditions. We return by way of the Funicular and reach the city once more.
